Description:

Let’s call him Mr. Quark, this otherwise nameless, down-on-his-luck pot-
smuggler. He begins his story in hiding, in the mountains of Colombia, where he, his dog, High Pockets, and the bandito Jose have fled to avoid prosecution on drug and (utterly false) terrorism charges. Only months before, these three and their faithful associates enjoyed millions in cash and high-grade marijuana, as well as their own private Learjet.

COSMIC BANDITOS is the story of how this sad decline came to pass and the side-splitting, throbbing consequences of Jose’s mugging of a family of American tourists. For among the spoils are physics texts which soon obsess the one we call Mr. Quark, and which lead these strange pilgrims on a trek northward on a route that Einstein, Heisenberg and Schrödinger might have mapped to the subatomic centre of the universe.

If one could imagine fear-and-loathing at MIT, or dancing Wu Li masters gone snow blind, then one might have an idea of what COSMIC BANDITOS is all about. But in combining two fashionable subjects – physics and drugs – A. C. Weisbecker has taken one weird genre one giant step closer to insanity (or to the reality of the subatomic world, take your pick). COSMIC BANDITOS, as Mr. Quark says so frequently, ‘is yet another example of something’.
