Colpeck finds himself "awakened" by Smith’s mind, and decides that he doesn’t want to die. He convinces a female of the Council, Vinetta, to join his mini-rebellion, and they escape to Sicily when the last of their compatriots purge themselves in the flames. But the late Council Chairman has left one last nasty surprise: a Man Killer robot has been programmed to hunt down and kill Vinetta, wherever she may hide, thereby dooming the human race. Can Wyndham Smith defeat this implacable metal monster?
