Description : Facial rigging is a very important skill needed by any beginning 3D artist, and a flexible and thoughtful rig will help animators in the process of further work. In this course on the basics of facial rigging in Maya, you’ll see the entire facial rigging process from start to finish. The first step is to evaluate what animators need, which is first and foremost a flexible yet functional facial rig designed only for creating really important facial poses. After that, we’ll begin the process, starting with the eyebrows and combining the use of joints and blendshapes, while also going over the pros and cons of both methods. Next, we’ll use both of these techniques for specific parts of the facial rig, such as to simulate the movement of the skin of the eyelids, and we’ll also talk about controllers for the eyeballs. Finally, all of these individual rig elements will be linked to the custom controllers you saw at the very beginning. By the end of this course, you will have all the necessary skills to rig your characters’ faces.
