A SHOCK TO THE SYSTEM
Graham Marshall is one of those people who have "done all right for themselves"
– he has a pretty wife, two children, a good job with even better prospects and a
good-sized house. His life is thrown into turmoil when he accidentally and successfully
commits his first murder. Graham starts thinking how he could change his life by getting rid
of a few complications. First his wife who is increasingly materialistic: then his children, who
are growing into complete strangers; and his mother-in-law who is becoming more
and more selfish; and finally there is the never-ending mortgage, which
seems pointless when the house is badly in need of repair.
Graham’s predicament is a common one which most men would continue to live with.
However, Graham sets out to solve it all and his plotting makes for a chillingly
plausible story, with wonderful black humour, unbearable suspense and a
final twist in the tail which is breathtakingly audacious.
