Catergory: Mystery, Thriller & Suspense

Three full-cast dramas by popular crime writer Peter Lovesey, plus a selection of short stories recorded for radio

Peter Lovesey is well known for his murder mysteries featuring Victorian policeman Sergeant Cribb, Bath detective Peter Diamond and Bertie, Prince of Wales. He has won numerous awards, including the Crime Writers’ Association Silver Dagger, Gold Dagger and Diamond Dagger for Lifetime Achievement. Collected here are adaptations of three of his historical whodunnits, alongside four short stories with a twist in the tale.

Keystone – 1916. Arriving in Hollywood looking for a job, British actor Warwick Easton is hired to play a Keystone Cop. But no sooner has filming begun than comedy turns to tragedy. Set among the real stars of the silver screen in the heyday of silent movies, this diverting thriller stars Mark Straker and Jennifer Ehle.

Rough Cider – Evacuated to a Somerset farm, nine-year-old Theo is unwittingly involved in a terrible murder. Twenty years later, he is forced to return and relive his childhood memories. Did he contribute to a miscarriage of justice? Rob Edwards stars in this gripping drama set in the 1960s.

Bertie and the Crime of Passion – Paris, 1891, and the Prince of Wales turns royal sleuth to investigate a fatal shooting at the fashionable night club Moulin Rouge – aided and abetted by France’s most famous and glamorous actress, Sarah Bernhardt. Starring Robert Lang as Bertie and Jane Lapotaire as Sarah.

Vandals – Miss Parmenter takes an instant dislike to the young man on her doorstep. In his leather jacket and jeans, he looks no better than a vandal. But she has been waiting a long time for this opportunity, and she is not going to let it slip away. Read by Auriol Smith.

Curl Up and Dye – A captive client finds himself at the mercy of a talkative barber with a hair-raising story to tell. Read by John Baddeley.

The Stalker – Months after his resignation from the police, the senior detective in the Sharon Eakins murder investigation sets down the extraordinary truth about the case. Read by James Bryce.

Murdering Max – Peter Lovesey is proud to have written the world’s first, and only, ‘youdunnit’. So when he discovers that a rival writer has come up with the same idea, he sets about getting rid of him. Read by James Bryce.

Peter J Lee – (Peter J. Lee)

Kole always wanted to be a wizard, a dream that grew into an obsession when his parents disappeared on an adventure. The son of two powerful magical heritages, Kole was hailed as a prodigy at an early age. But a head start is of little use if you’re tied to the starting gate. When his mother’s magic manifested after he’d already embarked on the path to wizardry, he found he had only a singular powerful magical ability-to turn invisible.
The heritage that granted that power holds him back from the higher heights of his dreams, and he has spent the last five years struggling to overcome his blocked wizardry. When his parents are declared legally dead, Kole is forced to make a choice: Stay at home and be forced to train as an illusory warrior like his mother, or set out on his own to seek answers to his problem at the center of all magical learning, the Academy of Illunia. Peter Hart The Somme The Darkest Hour On The Western Front – (Peter Hart)

Catergory: History, Military, Nonfiction

One of the bloodiest battles of modern warfare-a military tragedy that would come to define a generation
On July 1, 1916, the British Army launched the "Big Push" that was supposed to bring an end to the horrific stalemate on the Western Front between British, French, and German forces. What resulted was one of the greatest single human catastrophes in the history of warfare. Scrambling out of trenches in the face of German machine guns and artillery fire, the Allied Powers lost over twenty thousand soldiers that first day, but this "battle" would drag on for another four deadly months.
As the oral historian at the Imperial War Museum in London, Peter Hart has brought to light new material never before seen or heard. The Somme is an unparalleled evocation of World War I’s iconic contest-the definitive account of one of the most harrowing battles of the twentieth century. Click to expand…

Peter Cawdron The Minotaur First Contact (Peter Cawdron)

9798313959009 Independently Published 2025โ€‹

Catergory: Science Fiction & Fantasy

Life has been found beneath the icy shell of the moon of a gas giant orbiting a red dwarf at a distance of 11 light-years from Earth.
When the crew of the original exploration mission crashes on the alien moon, a rescue ship is launched. Arriving decades later, the crew of the Kelvin finds a colony of survivors living in the labyrinth of caves beneath the surface of the moon. When people start dying, they realize they need to unravel the secrets of this alien world and the mystery of the minotaur.
The Minotaur is a tribute to the 1961 classic Solaris, written by Stanislaw Lem, and considers the psychological impact of examining an exotic alien life form unlike anything ever encountered on Earth.
First Contact is a series of standalone novels that explore humanity’s first interaction with extraterrestrial life. This series is similar to Black Mirror and The Twilight Zone in that the series is based on a common theme rather than common characters. These books can be listened to in any order. Technically, they’re all first as they all deal with how we might initially respond to contact with aliens, exploring the social, political, religious, and scientific aspects of First Contact.

Peter Castle The Zen Trader (Peter Castle)

0857198262 Harriman House Publishing 2022โ€‹

Catergory: Business, Nonfiction

Trading is a stressful occupation, with mental and emotional traps on every side. Our instincts drive us to self-destruction: holding plummeting stocks in the hope of a sudden recovery, or obsessing over the minute-to-minute movements of our holdings. What if there were a trader who knew how to avoid these traps, and could teach us to trade from a place of inner calm and peace of mind? Peter Castle has been a successful trader in financial markets for almost 30 years. He also happens to be a Zen monk. Peter’s unique perspective gives him unrivalled insight into how the wisdom of Zen can empower us to master our minds, and so achieve success in the markets. Many guides to using Zen avoid clear prescriptions and rely instead on cryptic quotes. In The Zen Trader, Peter demystifies both trading and Zen, using decades of experience, sharing dozens of real-life examples, and explaining clearly the systems that enable mastery of both disciplines. He teaches us how to limit distraction, focus attention, detach from problematic emotions, be true to ourselves, and embrace the unlimited opportunities that exist in our professional and personal lives. Following Peter’s wisdom, you too can become a Zen Trader. Click to expand…

Peter Cameron What Happens At Night (Peter Cameron)

1787704246 Europa Editions (UK) Ltd 2020โ€‹

Catergory: Fantasy, Fiction, Literature, Romance

"Faultlessly elegant and quietly menacing." -Garth Greenwell, author of Cleanness and Small Rain

A couple find themselves at a fading, grand European hotel full of eccentric and sometimes unsettling patrons in this allegorical story that examines the significance of shifting desires and the uncertainty of reality

An unnamed American couple travels to a strange, snowy European city to adopt a baby. It’s a difficult journey that leaves the wife, who is struggling with cancer, desperately weak, and her husband worries that her illness will prevent the orphanage from releasing their child.

On arrival, the couple checks into the cavernous and eerily deserted Borgarfjaroasysla Grand Imperial Hotel where the bar is always open and the lobby populated with an enigmatic cast of characters ranging from an ancient, flamboyant chanteuse to a debauched businessman to an enigmatic faith healer. Nothing is as it seems in this baffling, frozen world, and the more the couple struggles to claim their baby, the less they seem to know about their marriage, themselves, and life itself.

For readers of Ian McEwan, Elizabeth Strout, and Iris Murdoch, What Happens at Night is a "masterpiece" (Edmund White) poised on the cusp of reality, told by "an elegantly acute and mysteriously beguiling writer" (Richard Eder, The Boston Globe ). Click to expand…

THE CHARITY SHOP DETECTIVES
Level-headed Fiona has found a quiet sanctuary volunteering at the local charity shop, Dogs Need Nice Homes. A charity shop that raises money for dogs in need of nice homes. And she’s found firm friendship with the strong-willed Partial Sue (she’s ever so partial to a cup of tea) and the kindly and surprisingly tech-savvy Daisy. Together, these ladies, with Simon Le Bon, Fiona’s scruffy-haired terrier cross, investigate murders as the Charity Shop Detective Agency.

THE SETTING
The lovely coastal town of Southbourne is, on paper, little more than a small suburb hemmed in by Bournemouth to the west and Christchurch to the north. But it’s home to the prettiest avenues lined with gorgeous Georgian homes which lead to a grass-topped cliff standing guard over a sweeping bay of blond sand, soft as Demerara sugar. Some say it’s also home to the best charity shops in the country. The ladies of the Charity Shop Detective Agency maintain that Dogs Need Nice Homes – though musty and more than a little cramped – is certainly number one. Well, they definitely solve the most crimes at least! Click to expand…
