StaxRip v2.44.5 x64

StaxRip is a multiformat video encoding application. With StaxRip you can easily convert your Blu-ray/DVD/DVB and many more formats into MPEG-4 like XviD, x264/H264/AVC, x265/H265/HEVC, VP9. As a open source application StaxRip is completely free. Video Output Formats: XviD, x264/H264/AVC, x265/H265/HEVC, VP9, AVI, MP4, MKV, WEBM. Audio Output Formats: MP3, AC3, MP2/MPA, AAC, DTS, WAV. Hardware HEVC encoding.

Select the output profile and customize settings
Wrapped in a classical-looking interface that doesn’t put emphasis on appearance, StaxRip helps you get started by specifying an output profile between x264, DivX Plus, iPad, iPhone, PS3, WebM, Xbox 360 and XviD, thanks to the fact that it has optimized settings for these templates. Plus, you can choose the encoding mode by either favoring video quality (greater file size) or file size (poorer quality).

However, this doesn’t mean that the application doesn’t let you customize each setting. On the contrary, you can apply image filters (e.g. deinterlace, crop borders, noise, resize), set the resolution width and height, as well as select the quality level and targeted device.

Rip movies from various sources
The program is able to rip movies from Blu-ray folders, DVDs or Blu-ray discs using MakeMV, as well as to convert regular videos from files in batch mode (e.g. .avi, .mpg, .mov) or from entire directories with common clips. It can also merge multiple videos into a single file.

The project can be saved to file and resumed later. You can preview media files, add tasks to a queue for batch execution, manage encoders and decoders, muxers and demuxers along with filters, open hardcoded subtitles, as well as modify expert setting regarding the image, audio, subtitles, paths, reminders, filters, compressibility check, and others.

Evaluation and conclusion
CPU and RAM consumption was fair in our tests, and StaxRip carried out conversion tasks swiftly, without triggering the operating system to hang, crash or prompt error dialogs. The main downside of the tool is that it’s targeted at advanced users only, since it’s not intuitive for beginners. Other than that, it’s packed with powerful options dedicated to DVD ripping.

StartIsBack is fully native lightweight zero-privileges program, cheap and fair, fast, stable and secure. Unlike other similar apps which return the old Start menu and button, the side menu of StartIsBack is transparent and highlights every new program in the list.

When it comes to functionality, StartIsBack integrates some useful features. For example, if you search the computer for a new item, this is instantly shown in the results area (if it was previously indexed by Windows).

As we have mentioned before, StartIsBack comes with a multitude of configuration settings; these concern the Start menu items and behavior (e.g. display My Computer as a link, hide Default Programs and Device and Printers), appearance (e.g. disable taskbar translucency, hide the Start button) and switching rules (e.g. show the desktop when logging onto the PC, switch to the last used application when clicking the Start screen).

Other options refer to uncluttering items in the Start screen (by renaming the Start screen to "Apps" and by keeping only the modern apps in that location), the advanced system commands menu (combine the Start button context menu with the one of the Start screen) and Windows tweaks (e.g. store and display recently opened programs). Furthermore, you can disable StartIsBack for the current user.

StartIsBack does not put a strain on the computer’s overall performance, as it uses a pretty low amount of CPU and system memory. It is pretty responsive to key strokes and mouse commands. We have not encountered any issues throughout our testing; StartIsBack did not hang, crash or display error dialogs. Thanks to its intuitive yet rich features, the application should please users of all skill levels.
