Book Description

Rory Mackenzie is juror number seven on a high-profile murder case in
her hometown of Ransom River, California. It’s a place she vowed never
to visit again, after leaving behind its surfeit of regret and misfortune
and the specter of a troubled past that threatened to disturb the town’s
peaceful faτade.

Brilliant yet guarded, Rory has always felt like an outsider. She retreated
into herself when both her career aspirations and her love affair with
a childhood friend, undercover cop Seth Colder, were destroyed in a
tragic accident.

While most of the town is focused on the tense and shocking circumstances
of the trial, Rory’s return to Ransom River dredges up troubling memories
from her childhood that she can no longer ignore. But in the wake of
a desperate attack on the courthouse, Rory realizes that exposing these
dark skeletons has connected her to an old case that was never solved,
and bringing the truth to light just might destroy her.

Departing from her popular series novels, Meg Gardiner has gone deeper
than ever into the utterly convincing lives and compelling pasts of
her characters. Ransom River is an intimate crime thriller with a dark
mystery at its heart – one that will keep listeners breathless.

Rami Kaminski The Gift Of Not Belonging [Audiobook] – (Rami Kaminski MD)

Catergory: Health & Wellness

From a renowned psychiatrist comes the first book to explore the otrovert personality-someone who feels like an outsider in any group, regardless of its members-revealing all the advantages of being an otrovert and ways they contribute to the world.

Were you the kid who never wanted to join after school clubs or go to sleepaway camp? Do you loathe parties but love spending time with close friends one-on-one? Are you allergic to teamwork but thrive creatively and professionally when working alone? Do you struggle to fit in? If so, you are likely an otrovert.

Otroverts are not natural born joiners. Unlike introverts, they are not shy or quiet, and do not quickly tire from one-on-one socializing. Yet in large groups they feel uncomfortable, alienated, and alone.

Unlike those who have been excluded or marginalized, otroverts are embraced and often quite popular. Yet they never feel like they truly belong.

In a culture that puts a premium on joining, many otroverts have gone through life feeling misunderstood. But, contrary to what we have been taught, argues psychiatrist Rami Kaminski, belonging is not a requirement for living a rich, rewarding life. Quite the opposite.

When you have no affinity for a particular group, your self-worth is not conditioned on the group’s approval. You can enjoy deep connection in individual relationships without the obligation to follow the rules the group follows, or care about what the group cares about. Best of all, you know of no other way to think or be, other than for yourself.

The Gift of Not Belonging urges otroverts to embrace their unique gifts, and equips them with the knowledge and tools to thrive in a communal world. Click to expand…

Catergory: Health & Wellness

A life-changing 7-step program for parents who are struggling to help their kids navigate today’s complex world, written by one of Australia’s most influential teachers.

Raising Men Lessons Navy SEALs Learned From Their Training And Taught To Their Sons (Santorelli, …

125009173X St. Martin’s Press 2016

Catergory: Children, Family & Relationships, Psychology, Nonfiction

After Eric Davis spent over 16 years in the military, including a decade in the SEAL Teams, his family was more than used to his absence on deployments and secret missions that could obscure his whereabouts for months at a time.
Without a father figure in his own life since the age of fifteen, Eric was desperate to maintain the bonds he’d fought so hard to forge when his children were young-particularly with his son, Jason, because he knew how difficult it was to face the challenge of becoming a man on one’s own. Unfortunately, Eric learned the hard way that Quality Time doesn’t always show up in Quantity Time.
Facebook, television, phones, video games, school, jobs, friends-they all got in the way of a real, meaningful father-son relationship. It was time to take action.
As a SEAL, Eric learned to innovate and push boundaries, allowing him to function at levels beyond what was expected, comfortable, ordinary, and even imaginable, and he knew that as a father he needed to do the same with his son. Meeting extreme with extreme was the only answer.
Using a unique blend of discipline, leadership, adventure, and grace, Eric and his SEAL brothers will teach you how to connect, and reconnect, with your sons and learn how to raise real men-the Navy SEAL way. Click to expand…

Rain Of Ruin Tokyo Hiroshima And The Surrender Of Japan (Overy Ph.D., Richard)

1324105305 W. W. Norton & Company 2025

Catergory: History, Military, Nonfiction

A leading historian of World War II sheds new light on the purposes and impact of the U.S. incendiary and atomic bombing of Japan’s cities in 1945.
With the development of the B-29 "Superfortress" in summer 1944, strategic bombing, a central component of the Allied war effort against Germany, arrived in the Pacific theater. In 1945 Japan experienced the three most deadly bombing attacks of the war. The firebombing of Tokyo in March burned the city’s most densely populated sector, killed some 85,000 residents, and left more than one million homeless. The attack was part of a months-long campaign of incendiary bombing that destroyed almost two-thirds of Japan’s cities. The two atomic blasts in August killed hundreds of thousands in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, most of them civilians. The bombing brought a destabilizing devastation that, combined with a declaration of war by the Soviet Union, induced Japan, as they put it, to terminate the war.
Many at the time and since have credited American air power, and especially the two atomic bombs, with Japan’s surrender. But Richard Overy tells a different, more dimensional story. Drawing on his expertise on the war and its bombing campaigns, he delivers a precise recounting of these aerial attacks, and a balanced, informed assessment of how and why they occurred. Overy is astute on the Allied decision-making, and, notably, integrates the Japanese leadership as well. He ably navigates the dramatic endgame of the war, which featured factional infighting within the Japanese cabinet, a scramble by American officials to formulate an acceptable version of "unconditional surrender," and the crucial role played by the emperor, Hirohito. The atomic bombing emerges as impactful but not decisive in this rich, multilayered history Click to expand…
