Description:

One of the most respected U.S. health magazines cuts through the myths surrounding heart disease to provide effective prevention and treatment strategies

Heart disease remains the leading cause of death for both men and women in the West, yet so little is known about it. Despite the billions of dollars spent on researching its causes, conventional medicine continues to offer treatments that are based on false observations. Many still believe, for example, that fatty foods clog the arteries (they don’t) and that LDL cholesterol is the villain (it’s not-it’s merely a symptom). Find out the real causes, how to treat heart disease, and how to prevent it in this essential guide.

What Doctors Don’t Tell You is a well-respected international magazine that has been researching medicine-alternative and conventional-since 1989. It is now widely regarded as one of the best health newsletters in the world. Now, in association with What Doctors Don’t Tell You, Hay House is publishing an authoritative new series of books, each focusing on a common health condition or concern, to help readers make informed decisions about their health, and the health of their families.

Title: Pitch Black (2000)
Genres: Action, Horror, Sci-Fi
Description: The space transport vessel "Hunter-Gratzner" carrying 40 people on-board crashes on a desert planet when the ship is struck in a meteor storm. There are only 11 survivors, among them are pilot Carolyn Fry (Who has assumed command after the ship’s captain is killed), bounty hunter William J. Johns, religious man Abu Al-Walid, Antiques dealer Paris P. Ogilvie, runaway teenager Jack, settlers John ‘Zeke’ Ezekiel and his lover Sharon ‘Shazza’ Montgomery, and Richard B. Riddick, a dangerous escaped convict. Marooned, the survivors discover the barren and hot desert-scape has sunlight from three suns. Not only must they find food and water and worry about Riddick, the survivors find themselves being hunted by the planet’s flesh-eating alien inhabitants when the planet is engulfed in darkness, which happens every 22 years, as they emerge from underground to hunt and eat all signs of life. Fry and the survivors find Riddick is their best chance of survival, as Riddick has surgically-enhanced eyes that allow him to see in the dark as they set out to find a way of escaping from the planet and getting to an escape shuttle, before they all get eaten by the creatures on the surface.

Description:

Engineering Mechanics of Solids and Structures is essential for self-study and reference, setting out the underlying mechanical concepts, methods, and theories applicable to a broad spectrum of structural and mechanical components – relevant to the analysis and design of a dome-like structure or a suspension bridge, the hull of a ship or a spacecraft, the mechanical component of an engine, or the power train of a vehicle. The principles are given a thorough mathematical treatment, which demonstrates the limitations of the approximations and provides the tools for more precise analyses, while less mathematics is needed to show the behavior of simple structural components.
This book covers both the Lagrangian and Newtonian approaches to the conditions of motion and equilibrium, offering the Lagrangean criteria of work and energy as the most effective means to formulate finite elements and other discrete approximations, which are amenable to digital computation. This gives advanced students in aerospace, mechanical, and civil engineering a solid foundation for the analysis and approximation of engineering problems, presented in a form that is both mathematically rigorous and physically meaningful.

Author: Susanne Cook-Greuter
Language: angielski
Year: 1985
Subjects: N/A
Publisher: Wydawnictwo: ResearchGate
ISBN: N/A
Total pages: 16

Description:

Ego Development Theory (EDT) has come a long way since Jane Loevinger’s original (1970) and sparse stage descriptions compared to our current understanding of the full trajectory of development, and the mechanisms, and patterns of vertical growth in the personal realm.

What makes EDT unique and different from other theories in the field of constructivist developmental approaches is its focus on meaning making. EDT addresses the whole person. It is best understood as a framework that portrays the growth of individuals as moving into ever greater awareness and integration about both the inner and the outer world. Although EDT focuses on the development of individual awareness, it fully recognizes that there is no individual interior development outside a cultural and linguistic surround, nor is individual growth possible without the external context (historical, geographic, infrastructure, etc.) as it supports and constrains what is possible in the interior.

EDT has been developed and refined over at least 40 years by empirical means unlike almost all other developmental approaches 2 which first propose a theory, then find appropriate means to measure their constructs. EDT is a grounded theory. It was derived solely based on evidence from responses to the sentence completion test which we now call the MAP (Maturity Assessment Profile).

Description:

Learn to write real Linux software-not just run it.

Most programmers never learn how Linux really works. Why? Because system programming is rarely taught, and the tools can be intimidating without the right guidance. As a result, many developers stick to high-level languages and frameworks-writing code that runs on Linux without understanding how it interacts with Linux.

In today’s world, that’s not enough to stand out. Especially as more companies turn to AI to write their software, the question becomes: How do you stay relevant in an AI-driven world? You learn how things really work.

If you’ve ever wondered how processes are created, how memory and files are managed, or how programs communicate in a Unix environment, System Programming in Linux will make it all make sense.

This is a hands-on guide to writing software that interfaces directly with the Linux operating system. You’ll go beyond shell commands and abstractions to understand what the kernel is doing-and how to leverage it through your own code. Rather than telling you how to solve each problem, Professor Stewart N. Weiss guides you through the process of discovering the solution yourself.

Start with the core concepts of Unix and Linux, then work your way up to advanced topics like process control, signals, interprocess communication, threading, and non-blocking I/O. Each chapter includes conceptual diagrams, annotated source code, and practical projects to help you immediately apply what you’ve learned.

You’ll explore topics such as:

  • The structure of Unix and Linux operating systems-and why it matters
  • Using system calls to create and manage processes
  • The mechanics of signals, timers, and interprocess communication
  • Using synchronization tools to write multithreaded programs
  • Interacting with filesystems, devices, and terminals
  • Building text-based user interfaces using ncurses
  • Developing programs that are robust, efficient, and portable

At Hunter College, Professor Weiss built the course this book is based on, and he has helped thousands of students go from confusion to confidence in his over 40 years of teaching programming. His clear, conversational style; technical depth; and focus on real-world application make this one of the most approachable and powerful system programming books available.

As Linux continues to dominate development, server, and embedded environments, understanding the system behind your software isn’t just helpful; it’s essential.

Whether you’re a student, developer, or sysadmin, this book gives you the tools to work directly with Linux and the insight to understand what’s really happening under the hood.
