I denne første biografien om Gran gir forfatter Anne Hege Simonsen en levende skildring av polarhelten i isødet og fly- pioneren alene i sitt fly over havet. Under 1. verdenskrig kjempet Tryggve Gran for England, men vendte så tilbake til Norge der han ble tiltrukket av den fremvoksende fascismen. Da 2. verdenskrig brøt ut, valgte han tysk side.
