Description:

I’ve spent my life in the stuffy corporate world.
So when I see Lucia delivering milk and butter from a local farm, she’s the breath of fresh air I crave.
But this darling farm girl is wholesome in ways I’m not.
And I want to do more than butter her biscuit. I want all of her. Forever.
I may be twenty years older than this sweet thing, but I say butter late than never.
I want to make her my butter half. Now.

Dear Reader,
Logan is all grown up with one thing on his mind: Lucia.
He’s ready to spread the love because he knows they’re butter together than a part.
You ready to melt, babycakes?
xo, frankie

Description:

Excerpt from Guide to Bee-Keeping in British Columbia

The replies received cover these regions fairly well, sufficient to at least give an indication of the possibilities in different localities.

In the Eastern Provinces of Canada, especially in Ontario, there are many men who depend on bee-keeping entirely as a means of livelihood, but, so far as is known, there is no such development of the industry in British Columbia. Thus far the largest number of hives reported as being operated by one individual is fifty, but any one confining his energies to bee-keeping alone generally considers 300 hives as the minimum number on which to spend his efforts, these being usually scattered over a considerable territory. On the other hand, it has been learned that bee-keeping as a side issue is much more common than was anticipated; in fact, in the dairying and fruit-raising districts a small apiary would seem to be a necessary feature of almost every ranch. In some localities from which the information is rather complete there is seemingly one keeper of bees to every twenty people. This fact is rather valuable, because it shows that it is unnecessary for the home-seeker to bring with him to British Columbia his colonies of bees from the Eastern Provinces. Indeed, the Department of Agriculture earnestly advises that neither bees, empty used hives, nor used bee appliances of any kind be brought in, so as to prevent, if possible, the introduction of bee diseases, from which the Province is at present apparently free. Of course, there is no objection to the importation of queens from reputable breeders.

Uncommon Grounds tells the story of coffee from its discovery on a hill in ancient Abyssinia to the advent of Starbucks. In this updated edition of the classic work, Mark Pendergrast reviews the dramatic changes in coffee culture over the past decade, from the disastrous "Coffee Crisis" that caused global prices to plummet to the rise of the Fair Trade movement and the "third-wave" of quality-obsessed coffee connoisseurs. As the scope of coffee culture continues to expand, Uncommon Grounds remains more than ever a brilliantly entertaining guide to the currents of one of the world’s favorite beverages.

Description:

Whether you are a 5-person team or a 50,000 person company some of the same rules for successful collaboration apply. The more you share what you know the more it is worth; understanding a person’s local context is more critical to successful collaboration than any technology you may use. Based on years of research, an encyclopedic knowledge of collaborative technologies, and a realization that collaboration is hard to do successfully, Mr. Coleman provides a holistic view on collaboration. Through a variety of contributions from his social networks, others have contributed their best rules for collaboration based on their experience. The holistic approach (People, Process and Technology) is the organizing principle for the book and each rule can be found in the appropriate section. Managers, CEOs, Venture Capitalists, or anyone that has to work with other people at a distance every day can get great benefit from this book. Readers of this book will walk away with a much better idea how to be successful in their interactions with others via the computer. It will help people who are on teams separated geographically, as well as managers and executives. The book filled with high-tech nuggets of wisdom for programmers and IT professionals. But it also has practical rules that apply to anyone who works with others.

Description:

This book offers an explanation of why scale models are important to the design process. Albert Smith takes the reader through the history and significance of models in architecture from the magic of the Egyptian scale model to the present day. Through this description of the relationship between architecture and the scale model, Smith demonstrates the most effective process between concept and ‘machine’, between the idea and the final building. The great value of this book is to reveal the nature of the scale model and to unlock the tremendous potential of this design tool as a thinking and communicative advice. His chronological analysis goes on from Egypt through Rome to the relationship between the Greek paradigm scale model and then on to Medieval and Renaissance models. It concludes with the models of the Spanish architect Antonio Gaudi, the Russian Constructivists, the American architect Louis Khan and finally looks at the role of scale models in the present day through the work of the Polish/American architect Daniel Libeskind and the American Frank Gehry.
