Description:

The cottage stood alone on a rocky outcropping at the edge of the loch. Standing in the garden amongst the wildflowers, she felt the weight of the tattered envelope in her hands. Maybe there was something keeping her here in Scotland, a secret waiting to be uncovered.

Zelda Hicks has just lost her mother, and the only thing she knows about her father is that he was from Scotland. So a work trip to the Scottish village of Loch Cameron couldn’t be better timed. Maybe a break in the beautiful rolling hills of heather will help Zelda reconnect with her roots and recover from her grief.

Then, on a walk around the loch one bright morning, she comes across a tiny, tumbledown cottage, nestled on the edge of the forest. The elderly owner, Gretchen Ross, invites her in for buttery shortbread, and after learning that Gretchen might lose the cottage that has been in her family forever, Zelda vows to help her. She didn’t bargain on butting heads with the handsome, blue-eyed laird Hal Cameron in the process. Zelda can’t seem to forget Hal’s shy smile and she soon learns they might have more in common than she first thought.

But when Zelda discovers a bundle of old letters hidden in the back of an antique wardrobe at the cottage, they lead her back to the mysterious Hal. Pushing Zelda to examine her own family history, the letters reveal a secret that the community has kept hidden for over a generation. Hal says he wants to help Zelda, but just as she begins to open up, she learns he isn’t being entirely honest either. Can Zelda trust him and finally come to terms with her own past, or will uncovering this secret force her to leave Loch Cameron for good?

Dołącz do grona twórców popularności Linuksa

    Przerwania
    Metody synchronizacji jądra
    Zarządzanie czasem i pamięcią
    Operacje wejścia — wyjścia
    Diagnostyka kodu jądra
    Przenośność kodu

Stwórz poprawne funkcje jądra Linuksa i zaimplementuj je w odpowiedni sposób.

    Description:

President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s speech on December 8, 1941, lasted a mere six and half minutes. But his words and tone–in a monologue that would later be named the Infamy Speech–sent ripples into a nation and a world that continue even today. The historical implications that emerged from the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor were unprecedented, launching America not only into the depths of a dangerous war, but forever altering the safety and comfort of everyday living. December 8th became a day of speaking out publicly and declaring war; of action, battle, plotting, and victories. This date’s significance is resonant and profound as an indelible moment in American history.
Fresh from their series on the American Civil War, bestselling authors Newt Gingrich and William R. Forstchen now launch a new epic adventure by applying their imaginations and knowledge to the "Date of Infamy"–the attack on Pearl Harbor.

Pearl Harbor covers the full spectrum of characters and events from that historic moment, from national leaders and admirals to the views of ordinary citizens caught in the chaos of war. From the chambers of the Emperor of Japan to the American White House, from the decks of aircraft carriers to the playing fields of the Japanese Naval Academy, this powerful story stretches from the nightmare slaughter of China in the 1930s to the lonely office of Commander James Watson, an American cryptographer, who suspects the impending catastrophic attack. It is a story of intrigue, double-dealing, the horrific brutality of war, and the desperate efforts of men of reason on both sides to prevent a titanic struggle that becomes inevitable.

Gingrich and Forstchen’s now critically acclaimed approach, which they term "active history," examines how a change in but one decision might have profoundly altered American history. In Pearl Harbor, they pose the question of how the presence of but one more man within the Japanese attacking force could have transfigured the war. More than a retelling, the book also serves as a potent warning, valid still today as an example of what happens when communications and understanding breaks down, and a nation is ill-prepared for the onslaught that might ensue.

A compelling, meticulously researched saga, Pearl Harbor is also a novel of valor about those who took part in this cataclysmic moment in world history. It inaugurates a dramatic new Pacific War series that begins with the terrifying account of the day that started it all.

    Description:

This monograph discusses the different effects contributing to the overall loss of signal propagation along Earth-space paths and suggests ways to improve the design of communication systems.
The work begins with a brief overview of the theoretical aspects of the use of the geostationary orbit for microwaves propagation.
The chapter two is concerned with the propagation of microwaves in the troposphere. The discussion includes signal attenuation due to precipitation, clouds, fog, and atmospheric gases, an increase in noise and total signal degradation due to precipitation, emission noise from absorbing media (radio noise increase),and signal depolarization by raindrops. This type of radiation covers a spectrum wider than the microwave spectrum.
Chapter three analyses atmospheric attenuation. In practice, statistical description is one of satisfactory way to present the results of modelling of satellite links in undesired weather conditions in the area of Kielce. Because of the description was based on assumptions and actual data, those assumptions were verifiable and based on strong statistical evidence supporting them in the long-term perspective in Kielce (40 years in this case). Thanks to this approach, it was able to compare data provided by ITU-R or ESA with real-time data (e.g. rain attenuation as a function of the rain rate). Moreover, this chapter presents the application of polynomial regressions to simply illustrate the influence of rainfall on the signal attenuation. Each datum was processed using a bilinear interpolation to achieve an improved evaluation from the adjacent grids for a selected region in Poland. These estimates may be used by satellite systems engineers to calculate the link budget analyses.
The monograph also deals with propagation concerns for satellite communications systems. The rainfall has a considerable influence on the quality of microwaves signals in the satellite communications systems, especially due to absorption and reflection, as hydrometeors act as a strong source of noise. All of data were used to identify the impact of rain intensity, polarization and radio waves frequency on the microwave satellite signal quality. The research results presented in the monograph can be useful to satellite engineers to improve the design and performance of satellite communication links, or to minimize the interruption or total lack of communication between the terminal and the satellite.
