This new edition of EU Employment Law provides a complete revision and update of the leading English language text in the field. The coverage in the new edition has been expanded with material on all the latest developments, incorporating the changes made by the Lisbon Treaty; the EU2020 strategy; the Charter of Fundamental Rights; the ‘Article 19 Directives’; the Temporary Agency Work Directive; the revisions to the existing including the Directives on Parental Leave and European Works Council; and the new Social Security Regulations 883/2004. It also analyses the ever-expanding body of employment case law, including the momentous decisions in Viking, Laval, Rueffert, and Commission v Luxembourg.
The book begins with an examination of the development of EU employment law focusing on the shift from employment law to employment policy. The text then studies rule-making in the field of employment law, considering both the traditional routes to legislation and governance techniques such as the Open Method of Coordination. The final chapters look closely at the substantive area of employment law, examining the free movement of persons, equal treatment, health and safety and working conditions, the restructuring of enterprises, worker participation, and collective action. Throughout, the book addresses the fundamental question as to the purpose of EU employment law: is it primarily economic, or social, or both?
Readership: Students of European law, particularly postgraduates doing specialist courses on EU Employment/Social Law; academics and practitioners specializing in EU law, particularly employment and social law

Description:

The definitive history of the Middle East, thoroughly revised and updated

“The best overall survey of the politics, regional rivalries and economics of the contemporary Arab World.” – The Washington Post

One of the most crucial, volatile, and complex regions of the modern world, the Middle East has long confounded the dreams of conquerors and peacemakers alike. This now-classic book, fully updated to 2012 and still the essential work on the subject, follows the historic struggles of the Middle East from Napoleon’s campaign in Egypt and Syria, through the slow decline and fall of the Ottoman Empire, to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the history of Islam and its recent resurgence.

For this fourth edition, Economist correspondent Nicolas Pelham contributes an extensive new section examining recent developments throughout the Middle East, including the invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan, the situation in Iran, the region’s relations with the United States under President Obama, the Arab Spring, and more.

Description:

Painstakingly edited for an optimum eBook experience including an active Table of Contents.

Rather than providing rote solutions, this manual provides a doctrinal framework of principles; tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTP); terms; and symbols for the employment of the Infantry rifle company. This framework will help Infantry rifle company leaders effectively-

– Exploit capabilities unique to the Infantry.

– Reduce the vulnerability of the unit.

– Plan and conduct full-spectrum operations.

– Accomplish their missions in various tactical situations, from stability and civil support to high-intensity combat.

– Win on the battlefield.

The Infantry companies of the SBCT and HBCT mostly use the same doctrine, but cover more specific doctrine in their own manuals.

The main target audience for this manual includes Infantry rifle company commanders, executive officers, first sergeants, platoon sergeants and platoon leaders. Military instructors, evaluators, training and doctrine developers will also find it useful, as will other Infantry company commanders (HHC and weapons company), Infantry battalion staff officers, service school instructors, and commissioning source instructors.

This publication applies to the Active Army, the Army National Guard (ARNG), the National Guard of the
United States (ARNGUS), and the US Army Reserve (USAR) unless otherwise stated.

Leaders must understand this manual before they can train their companies using ARTEP 7-10-MTP. They should use this manual as a set along with the publications listed in the References.
