Title: Elements of Neo-Walrasian Economics: A Survey
Author: Takashi Negishi
Language: angielski
Year: 2013
Subjects: Business, Economics, Economics – Mathematical & Quanitative Methods, Econometrics
Publisher: Springer-Verlag New York, LLC
ISBN: 9784431545354
Total pages: 296

Description:

This book aims to explain to the readers the basic idea of the general equilibrium theory, which forms the core of the current mainstream economics called neoclassical school. To understand this theory is absolutely necessary, either to study further or to criticize the contemporary economic theories. The author not only explains traditional theories, but also makes clear the many problems which are still unsolved.
As a text book or reference book for those students who are studying microeconomics for the first time, the author recommends the use of Chapter 1, Chapter 2 (except section 9), Chapter 3 (from section 1 to section 3, section 6, section 11), Chapter 4 (from section 1 to section 4), Chapter 5 (from section 1 to section 5, section 8), Chapter 6 (except sections 6 and 7), Chapter 7 (from section 1 to section 5), Chapter 8 (from section 1 to section 6) and Chapter 9 (sections 1, 4 and 7). For more advanced readers, the author recommends the remaining sections and the literature recommended in the last part of each chapter. Problems given at the end of each chapter allow readers to confirm understanding of the content of the chapter and suggest to the readers more advanced studies. Incidentally, the author tried to avoid the use of the advanced mathematics. Only elementary knowledge of differential calculus and linear algebra are required to read this book.

Description:

First published in English 1929, this is a reissue of the nineteenth edition of Othmar Spann’s classic history of economic thought, which is strongly influenced by the German Romantic tradition.
Spann intended the work to serve as both history of economic thought and a critique of the main theories and systems of political economy, analysing the basic problems of economics in the light of the evolution of economic theory. His study encapsulates everything from pre-mercantile economics through to the political economy of the early twentieth century, encompassing such diverse subjects as the physiocratic system, the development of German political economy and the evolution of socialism.

Description:

This volume showcases the valuable achievements of the Romanian technology and industry worldwide. It started from the premise that the history of Romanian technique is scarcely known outside the borders of Romania. The main Romanian contributions to the world’s technological heritage are missing, except for a few names in the field of aviation, from the great encyclopedias and dictionaries published worldwide. This is due, among other reasons, to the insufficient promotion in widely spoken languages of the history of Romanian technology. The multidisciplinary approach of the volumes means that the field of technology had to be split into several branches. The present volume includes the following industries: mining, metallurgy, oil, natural gas, machine building, agricultural machinery, military, textiles, and construction. Folk technology, the formation of the industrial system, and mechanics are tackled in separate chapters. For each field, are engaged the collaboration of authors who have already published a history of their field. Certain chapters were drafted with the aid of specialists who have played the part of policy makers in the elaboration of development strategies for Romania and who are familiar not only with the facts and the history of their field, but also with the ‘philosophy’ behind its development.

Description:

Complete coverage of design and life assessment methods for high-temperature components
Applied Creep Mechanics fully discusses the time-dependent deformation which occurs in a metal when subjected to stress at an elevated temperature. This book explains how to perform detailed analyses of welded components; assess the conditions under which cracks may initiate and grow; and extract valuable information about the current state of the material, which may have been in service for many years.
This practical guide provides tested techniques for improving the design and life assessment methods for high-temperature components in power plants, chemical plants, and aero engines. The information presented in this book will help you optimize maintenance and repair, save time, reduce costs, and improve operational efficiency.

  • Provides real-world industrial perspective on how to apply techniques to practical problems
  • Case studies with linear and non-linear material behavior models
  • Solution methods based on equilibrium compatibility and stress-strain and energy concepts
  • Discusses high-temperature creep of engineering components; high-temperature structural analysis; high-temperature fracture mechanics; and damage mechanics
  • Covers welded, notched, and cracked components
  • State-of-the-art coverage of thermo-mechanical fatigue (TMF)

    Description:

One of the subjects of functional analysis is classification of Banach spaces depending on various properties of the unit ball. The need of such considerations comes from a number of applications to problems of mathematical analysis. The list of subjects includes: differential calculus in normed spaces, approximation theory, weak topologies and reflexivity, general theory of convexity and convex functions, metric fixed point theory and others. The book presents basic facts from this field.

    Description:

This is the first complete English translation of Geminos’s Introduction to the Phenomena-one of the most important and interesting astronomical works of its type to have survived from Greek antiquity. Gracefully and charmingly written, Geminos’s first-century BC textbook for beginning students of astronomy can now be read straight through with understanding and enjoyment by a wider audience than ever before. James Evans and Lennart Berggren’s accurate and readable translation is accompanied by a thorough introduction and commentary that set Geminos’s work in its historical, scientific, and philosophical context. This book is generously illustrated with diagrams from medieval manuscripts of Geminos’s text, as well as drawings and photographs of ancient astronomical instruments. It will be of great interest to students of the history of science, to classicists, and to professional and amateur astronomers who seek to learn more about the origins of their science.
Geminos provides a clear view of Greek astronomy in the period between Hipparchos and Ptolemy, treating such subjects as the zodiac, the constellations, the theory of the celestial sphere, lunar cycles, and eclipses. Most significantly, Geminos gives us the earliest detailed discussion of Babylonian astronomy by a Greek writer, thus offering valuable insight into the cross-cultural transmission of astronomical knowledge in antiquity.
