Language: angielski
Year: 2014
Subjects: N/A
Publisher: Wydawnictwo: Cambridge University Press
ISBN: 9781107653351

Description:

Cognitive Science combines the interdisciplinary streams of cognitive science into a unified narrative in an all-encompassing introduction to the field. This text presents cognitive science as a discipline in its own right, and teaches students to apply the techniques and theories of the cognitive scientist’s ‘toolkit’ – the vast range of methods and tools that cognitive scientists use to study the mind. Thematically organized, rather than by separate disciplines, Cognitive Science underscores the problems and solutions of cognitive science, rather than those of the subjects that contribute to it – psychology, neuroscience, linguistics, etc. The generous use of examples, illustrations, and applications demonstrates how theory is applied to unlock the mysteries of the human mind. Drawing upon cutting-edge research, the text has been updated and enhanced to incorporate new studies and key experiments since the first edition. A new chapter on consciousness has also been added.

Year: 2024
Subjects: Science & Technology, Biology & Life Sciences, Physics, Biophysics
Publisher: Cambridge University Press
ISBN: 9781009040990
Total pages: 403

Description:

It is common to study the electric activity of neurons by measuring the electric potential in the extracellular space of the brain. However, interpreting such measurements requires knowledge of the biophysics underlying the electric signals. Written by leading experts in the field, this volume presents the biophysical foundations of the signals as well as results from long-term research into biophysics-based forward-modeling of extracellular brain signals. This includes applications using the open-source simulation tool LFPy, developed and provided by the authors. Starting with the physical theory of electricity in the brain, this book explains how this theory is used to simulate neuronal activity and the resulting extracellular potentials. Example applications of the theory to model representations of real neural systems are included throughout, making this an invaluable resource for students and scientists who wish to understand the brain through analysis of electric brain signals, using biophysics-based modeling.

In this revised and updated edition of Hunt’s classic textbook, Human Intelligence, two research experts explain how key scientific studies have revealed exciting information about what intelligence is, where it comes from, why there are individual differences, and what the prospects are for enhancing it. The topics are chosen based on the weight of evidence, allowing readers to evaluate what ideas and theories the data support. Topics include IQ testing, mental processes, brain imaging, genetics, population differences, sex, aging, and likely prospects for enhancing intelligence based on current scientific evidence. Readers will confront ethical issues raised by research data and learn how scientists pursue answers to basic and socially relevant questions about why intelligence is important in everyday life. Many of the answers will be surprising and stimulate readers to think constructively about their own views.

Modeling Ships and Space Craft: The Science and Art of Mastering the Oceans and Sky begins with the theories of Aristotle and Archimedes, moving on to examine the work of Froude and Taylor, the early aviators and the Wright Brothers, Goddard and the other rocket men, and the computational fluid dynamic models of our time. It examines the ways each used fluid dynamic principles in the design of their vessels. In the process, this book covers the history of hydrodynamic (aero and fluid) theory and its progression – with some very accessible science examples – including seminal theories. Hydrodynamic principles in action are also explored with examples from nature and the works of man. This is a book for anyone interested in the history of technology – specifically the methods and science behind the use of scale models and hydrodynamic principles in the marine and aeronautical designs of today.

Title: Kaszubi i słupski proces Jana Bauera w 1932 roku : z dziejów polskiego ruchu narodowego na Pomorzu Zachodnim
Author: Wojciech Skóra
Language: polski
Year: 1932
Subjects: N/A
Publisher: Wydawnictwo: Wydawnictwo Rys
ISBN: 9788363664626
Total pages: 208

Description:

Podczas wyjątkowo mroźnych dni lutego 1932 roku w Słupsku odbył się proces Jana Bauera, polskiego nauczyciela i działacza narodowego. Była to jedna z najważniejszych rozpraw politycznych Polaków w Niemczech. W istocie był to proces pokazowy, a więc rodzaj demonstracji propagandowej, mający uderzyć w Kaszubów i zahamować coraz skuteczniejsze działania Polaków w północno-wschodnich Niemczech. Książka omawia przyczyny i przebieg tych wydarzeń. Uzupełnieniem jest kilkudziesięciostronicowe sprawozdanie z procesu.
