Description:

Oto prawdziwa historia Małego-Wielkiego Człowieka, z całym kolorem, rozmachem i tragedią klasycznego amerykańskiego westernu.

Description:

This audiobook is narrated by a digital voice.

From these two treatises of 4th century bishops and saints, Basil and Amphilochius, we learn the importance of learning and accumulating knowledge from ancient writings, both pagan and Christian. Wisdom can be drawn, that is in accordance with the Divine Scriptures, even from sources that have origins in the worship of false deities. Saint Basil urges us to learn how to distinguish between helpful virtues and damaging vices in Greek literature. Saint Amphilochius exhorts us to especially read the Holy Scriptures and submit the earthly things to Divine Wisdom. By studying the lore of heathens, we can be edified to prepare our bodies and souls for eternal life through drawing out the virtues within them. May the writings of these two Holy Fathers spur us on to obtain virtue, love, and good works.

A Year of Deep Listening is a publication of 365 scores for listening gathered by the Center for Deep Listening in celebration of the legacy of groundbreaking composer Pauline Oliveros.

Originally begun online, in honor of what would have been Oliveros’ 90th birthday (May 30, 2022), the project shared one score per day across social media for 365 days. The book version of A Year of Deep Listening brings these scores together into one beautiful and historic volume. An expression of the Deep Listening community, the scores were created by over 300 artists-ranging from prize winning composers to ear-minded grocery store clerks, from those who worked closely with Oliveros for decades to those who never met her.

Description:

The first volume of the 15th-century spiritual classic that condenses Buddhist teachings into one easy-to-follow meditation manual

The Great Treatise on the Stages of the Path to Enlightenment (Tib. Lam rim chen mo) is one of the brightest jewels in the world’s treasury of sacred literature. The author, Tsong-kha-pa, completed it in 1402, and it soon became one of the most renowned works of spiritual practice and philosophy in the world of Tibetan Buddhism. Because it condenses all the exoteric sūtra scriptures into a meditation manual that is easy to understand, scholars and practitioners rely on its authoritative presentation as a gateway that leads to a full understanding of the Buddha’s teachings.

Tsong-kha-pa took great pains to base his insights on classical Indian Buddhist literature, illustrating his points with classical citations as well as with sayings of the masters of the earlier Kadampa tradition. In this way the text demonstrates clearly how Tibetan Buddhism carefully preserved and developed the Indian Buddhist traditions.

This first of three volumes covers all the practices that are prerequisite for developing the spirit of enlightenment ( bodhicitta).

Description:

The abbey of Bec was founded in the eleventh century and was one of the best-known and most influential monasteries in Normandy. Celebrated for its high standard of religious life and its intellectual activity, Bec also had an exceptional degree of institutional independence.
The three treatises collected and translated in this volume – Tractatus de professionibus monachorum (‘The Profession of Monks’), De professionibus abbatum (‘The Profession of Abbots’), and De libertate Beccensis monasterii (‘On the Liberty of the Monastery of Bec’) – are a striking statement of the position of Bec in relation to episcopal and ducal (later royal) authorities. Little is known about the anonymous author of these works except that he was a twelfth-century monk with an attachment to Augustine and Gregory the Great, and that he had considerable knowledge of canon law. His purpose in writing these treatises was to assert and justify the privileges of Bec at a time when many bishops were reacting against monastic freedom, especially with regard to profession.
This volume is an important contribution to understanding not only monasticism in Normandy, but also the conflict between church and state in the eleventh and twelfth centuries.

Description:

The Seven Years War (1756-1763) marked the first truly world-wide conflict following the expansion of European colonies, sparking engagements across India to Canada.
As with so many of the European wars, the causes were a question of land and legitimacy. The ever-present simmering tensions between England and France, alongside the newly emergent Prussia and Austria, led to a conflict that dragged many other nations into the strife.
An excellent account of the operations of Frederick the Great by an eminent military theorist and historian, Jomini aims to not only show the laws of strategy employed by Frederick to win his campaigns, but also to juxtapose this with methods employed by Napoleon in his campaigns against the coalition powers.
This second volume covers the period from the battle of Hohenkirch in 1758 to the end of the conflict.
Of the Author – General Jomini saw much service during the Napoleonic Wars, initially working in staff positions for Marshal Ney prior to being attached to the Emperor’s own headquarters during the 1806 and 1807 campaigns. He was pushed out of the Grande Armée into the arms of the Russian service in 1813, becoming aide-de-camp to the Tzar. He was famous for his copious output of works on the military theory and strategy employed during the French Revolution, the Napoleonic Wars, and even those of Frederick the Great. He is often remembered for his chef d’œuvre, the "Art of War", and has been dubbed the "founder of modern strategy" by historian John Shy.

Description:

What is social justice? In Theories of Justice Brian Barry provides a systematic and detailed analysis of two kinds of answers. One is that justice arises from a sense of the advantage to everyone of having constraints on the pursuit of self-interest. The other answer connects the idea of justice with that of impartiality. Though the first book of a trilogy, Theories of Justice stands alone and constitutes a major contribution to the debate about social justice that began in 1971 with Rawls’s A Theory of Justice.

Description:

"The most sensible book and the most exempt from prejudice that ever was written in that science." – Horace Walpole.Born in Stockholm to Scottish parents, taken to London at the age of two and then on to India, William Chambers (1723-96) later studied architecture in Italy and France before finally settling in London. There he gained royal favor as the tutor in architecture of the Prince of Wales (later George III), which proved to be a definite asset throughout his career. His Treatise, originally published in 1791, was reprinted 32 years later with additional illustrations, articles, and an introduction discussing the qualifications and duties of an architect. This beautifully illustrated reproduction of the rare 1791 edition – originally designed to aid students in their study of architecture – contains 55 superbly engraved, fine-line plates displaying ornate compartments for coved ceilings; plans and elevations of pilaster capitals; pedestals for columns; arches; balusters; and other architectural features. An extremely influential book on British architectural practices of the eighteenth century, it is still widely regarded as the standard English text on the subject.
