Title: The Electricity Transmission System Operator Understanding EU Energy Policy
Author: Filip Grzegorczyk
Language: polski
Year: 2018
Subjects: N/A
Publisher: Wydawnictwo: C. H. Beck
ISBN: 9788325542009
Total pages: 168

Description:

Currently, the key element upon which EU energy policy is focused is the implementation of the so-called Third Liberalisation Package. This policy is based on a mechanism of far reaching regulation. Transmission system operators (TSOs) are at the heart of regulation of the single European energy market, because of their fundamental significance to the structure and operation of the energy sector. It is believed that the future of the European energy market and European energy security will to a large extent depend on TSOs. The study focuses on different legal issues which impact on the status of TSOs under EU law (unbundling, corporate governance, public tasks and financial management).

In the light of the fact that EU energy regulation has made unbundling a key legal instrument in the achievement of Energy Policy Goals, the author gives analysis of the whole concept of regulatory framework and overview of selected legal systems. This book is a way forward in this complicated and still not well implemented issue in the practice of EU single market and of EU Member States. professor Hana Horak, University of Zagreb, Department of Law, Jean Monnet Chair

Description:

The purpose of the book is to focus attention and offer suggestions on controversial and challenging topics in allogeneic stem cell transplant. Over 40,000 allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplants (HCT) are done worldwide each year. Despite advances in allogeneic transplant, the cure rate is only 50-70%, depending on disease and patient factors. The book focuses on key topics such as patient selection, donor selection, conditioning regimens, graft vs. host disease prophylaxis regimens, maintenance strategies, and other topics that affect patient outcomes. The authors also discuss access to transplant care. Through dissemination of these topics, we hope to educate health care professionals caring for these patients, and improve patient outcomes. This is an essential resource for transplant physicians, hematologists/oncologists, and advance practice providers. Several of the topics are controversial issues that are discussed “round the table” frequently by transplant teams.

Description:

The BaSIC topology is a revolutionary method for controlling power semiconductor devices. It enables monitoring the current flow through the devices while providing a unique current limiting capability that enhances their short-circuit withstand capability. The book describes the BaSIC topology concept and contrasts it with previous approaches. It provides an extensive description of the application of the BaSIC topology to silicon IGBTs, silicon carbide power MOSFETs, and GaN HEMT devices. The ability to extend the short-circuit withstand time to over 10 ms for SiC power MOSFETs has been achieved for the first time with the BaSIC topology. The BaSIC topology is the only approach shown to eliminate the failure of these devices under repetitive short-circuit events. The sensing of current in paralleled devices is demonstrated, eliminating the need for external sensors. The BaSIC topology has utility for various power electronics applications, including electric vehicles and industrial motor drives.

  • Introduces the BaSIC topology – a revolutionary new approach for the control of power devices;
  • Describes the application of the BaSIC topology to silicon IGBTs, silicon carbide power MOSFETs, and GaN HEMT devices;
  • Written by the inventor of the insulated-gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) and the BaSIC topology concept.

Language: angielski
Year: 2024
Subjects: Science & Technology, Mathematics, Geometry, Geometry – Euclidean & Projective
Publisher: Birkhäuser
ISBN: 9783031505072
Total pages: 1195

Description:

This text gives a comprehensive introduction to the “common core” of convex geometry. Basic concepts and tools which are present in all branches of that field are presented with a highly didactic approach. Mainly directed to graduate and advanced undergraduates, the book is self-contained in such a way that it can be read by anyone who has standard undergraduate knowledge of analysis and of linear algebra. Additionally, it can be used as a single reference for a complete introduction to convex geometry, and the content coverage is sufficiently broad that the reader may gain a glimpse of the entire breadth of the field and various subfields. The book is suitable as a primary text for courses in convex geometry and also in discrete geometry (including polytopes). It is also appropriate for survey type courses in Banach space theory, convex analysis, differential geometry, and applications of measure theory. Solutions to all exercises are available to instructors who adopt the text for coursework.
Most chapters use the same structure with the first part presenting theory and the next containing a healthy range of exercises. Some of the exercises may even be considered as short introductions to ideas which are not covered in the theory portion. Each chapter has a notes section offering a rich narrative to accompany the theory, illuminating the development of ideas, and providing overviews to the literature concerning the covered topics. In most cases, these notes bring the reader to the research front. The text includes many figures that illustrate concepts and some parts of the proofs, enabling the reader to have a better understanding of the geometric meaning of the ideas. An appendix containing basic (and geometric) measure theory collects useful information for convex geometers.

Description:

In general, when we think about media, and especially mass media, we seldom associate them with economy. Meanwhile, the freedom of communication is closely related to the fi nancing sources. The Americans say: “he who pays the piper calls the tune.” In the modern world, it is diffi cult to establish who pays and what they actually pay with. Very few of us realize that the currency we pay for the consumption of media is our attention. Milton Friedmann, a Nobel Prize laureate, justly stated that “there is no such thing as a free lunch.” This book proves it clearly. Its content is the elaboration of the thought by one of the most prominent researchers of this fi eld, prof. Alan B. Albarran, who postulated that the research on economics of media should be holistic. The University of North Texas professor most accurately defi nes the notion of “media economics”, which is “the study of how media fi rms and industries function across different levels of activity (e.g., global, national, household, etc.) in tandem with other forces (e.g., globalization, regulation, technology, and social aspects) through the use of theories, concepts, and principles drawn from macroeconomic and microeconomic perspectives” [A.B. Albarran, The Media Economy, Routledge, New York 2016, p. 3]. In this book, we strive to meet these postulates, in the hope of making a contribution to the understanding of the interpenetration of media and economy, as well as to the illustration of its Polish specifi city.

    Description:

    From the reviews of the first edition: "… In general the articles … are well written in a style that enables one to grasp the ideas. The actual style is a readable mix of the important results, outlines of proofs and complete proofs when it does not take too long together with readable explanations of what is going on. Also very useful are the large lists of references which are important not only for their mathematical content but also because the references given also contain articles in the Soviet literature which may not be familiar or possibly accessible to readers."
    New Zealand Math. Soc. Newsletter 1991
    "… Here … a wealth of material is displayed for us, too much to even indicate in a review. … Your reviewer was very impressed by the contents of both volumes (EMS 2 and 4), recommending them without any restriction. As far as he could judge, most presentations seem fairly complete…"
