Description:

Covering formulation, algorithms, and structural results, and linking theory to real-world applications in controlled sensing (including social learning, adaptive radars and sequential detection), this book focuses on the conceptual foundations of partially observed Markov decision processes (POMDPs). It emphasizes structural results in stochastic dynamic programming, enabling graduate students and researchers in engineering, operations research, and economics to understand the underlying unifying themes without getting weighed down by mathematical technicalities. Bringing together research from across the literature, the book provides an introduction to nonlinear filtering followed by a systematic development of stochastic dynamic programming, lattice programming and reinforcement learning for POMDPs. Questions addressed in the book include: when does a POMDP have a threshold optimal policy? When are myopic policies optimal? How do local and global decision makers interact in adaptive decision making in multi-agent social learning where there is herding and data incest? And how can sophisticated radars and sensors adapt their sensing in real time?

Total pages: 560

Description:

There are many books on data structures and algorithms, including some with useful libraries of C functions. Mastering Algorithms with C offers you a unique combination of theoretical background and working code. With robust solutions for everyday programming tasks, this book avoids the abstract style of most classic data structures and algorithms texts, but still provides all of the information you need to understand the purpose and use of common programming techniques.
Implementations, as well as interesting, real-world examples of each data structure and algorithm, are included.
Using both a programming style and a writing style that are exceptionally clean, Kyle Loudon shows you how to use such essential data structures as lists, stacks, queues, sets, trees, heaps, priority queues, and graphs. He explains how to use algorithms for sorting, searching, numerical analysis, data compression, data encryption, common graph problems, and computational geometry. And he describes the relative efficiency of all implementations. The compression and encryption chapters not only give you working code for reasonably efficient solutions, they offer explanations of concepts in an approachable manner for people who never have had the time or expertise to study them in depth.
Anyone with a basic understanding of the C language can use this book. In order to provide maintainable and extendible code, an extra level of abstraction (such as pointers to functions) is used in examples where appropriate. Understanding that these techniques may be unfamiliar to some programmers, Loudon explains them clearly in the introductory chapters.
Contents include:
Pointers
Recursion
Analysis of algorithms
Data structures (lists, stacks, queues, sets, hash tables, trees, heaps, priority queues, graphs)
Sorting and searching
Numerical methods
Data compression
Data encryption
Graph algorithms
Geometric algorithms

Description:

This monograph presents the existence and properties of both weak and strong solutions to the problems of the flow of a compressible fluid in a domain whose motion is prescribed. Chapters build upon the research of Lions and Feireisl with regards to weak solutions to the compressible version of the Navier-Stokes system, and extend it to problems on moving domains. The authors also show the existence of strong solutions to the compressible Navier-Stokes system for either a small time interval or small data. The opening chapters introduce the notation, tools, and problems covered in the rest of the book, emphasizing pedagogy and accessibility throughout. Mathematical Theory of Compressible Fluids on Moving Domains will be suitable for graduate students and researchers interested in mathematical fluid mechanics.

Subjects: Science & Technology, Mathematics, Logic & Foundations of Mathematics
Publisher: Cambridge University Press
ISBN: 9781108266123

Description:

Proof complexity is a rich subject drawing on methods from logic, combinatorics, algebra and computer science. This self-contained book presents the basic concepts, classical results, current state of the art and possible future directions in the field. It stresses a view of proof complexity as a whole entity rather than a collection of various topics held together loosely by a few notions, and it favors more generalizable statements. Lower bounds for lengths of proofs, often regarded as the key issue in proof complexity, are of course covered in detail. However, upper bounds are not neglected: this book also explores the relations between bounded arithmetic theories and proof systems and how they can be used to prove upper bounds on lengths of proofs and simulations among proof systems. It goes on to discuss topics that transcend specific proof systems, allowing for deeper understanding of the fundamental problems of the subject.

Description:

This book discusses helical Ince-Gaussian beams, which are presented as expansions in Hermite-Gaussian modes, and analytical expressions for the orbital angular momentum are obtained for them. In scalar optics, light is described by a complex amplitude, a complex function of three Cartesian coordinates. This function must be a solution to the scalar paraxial Helmholtz equation, which is equivalent to the Schrödinger equation in quantum mechanics. There are not many known exact analytical solutions of this equation in the form of special functions, only a few dozen. Each such solution can be associated with a certain laser beam, for example, a Bessel, Laguerre-Gaussian or Hermite-Gaussian beam. Each such analytical solution of the Helmholtz equation allows one to fully describe all the features of the light beam before modeling. Find the intensity distribution at any distance from the waist, phase distribution, total beam power and its other characteristics. Therefore, the search for new analytical solutions describing new laser beams, including helical (vortex) beams, which have orbital angular momentum and topological charge, is relevant. This book describes new helical beams that the authors obtained in 2023-2024. These are generalized asymmetric Laguerre-Gaussian and Hermite-Gaussian beams, double and square Bessel-Gaussian and Laguerre-Gaussian beams, and several types of Bessel-Bessel-Gaussian beams. Each such new analytical solution of the Helmholtz paraxial equation is a significant contribution to optics. The book is of interest to a wide range of scientists and engineers working in the field of optics, photonics, laser physics, opto-information technologies and optical instrumentation. It can also be useful for bachelors and masters in the specialties applied mathematics and physics, applied mathematics and informatics, optics and graduate students specializing in these areas.
