    Total pages: 894

    Description:

Robotics, mechatronics and autonomous systems can exhibit complex nonlinear dynamics which can lead to unsatisfactory transients and deviation from setpoints or even to instability. A standard approach in the control of these systems had been the concept of diffeomorphisms to bring a system into a linear form. However, these methods are not straightforward and result in complicated state-space model transformations. In this monograph, new methods have been investigated which are not constrained by the shortcomings of global linearization-based control schemes. They can be implemented in a computationally simple manner, are followed by global stability proofs, and perform better than previous optimal control approaches for a wider class of nonlinear dynamical systems and applications. In this monograph, the authors present two main proven control methods: the nonlinear optimal (H-infinity) control method, and the flatness-based control approach. These methods have shown to be better suited than previous standard approaches in solving control issues, and can be used in a wide class of dynamical systems. They can have a broad range of applications in mechatronics, industrial robotics, space robotics, robotic cranes and pendulums, autonomous vehicles, aerospace systems and satellites, power electronics, biosystems and financial systems.
This very comprehensive monograph is a valuable resource for academic researchers and engineers working on control systems and estimation methods, and university staff and graduate students in the fields of control and automation, robotics and mechatronics, electrical engineering, electric power systems and power electronics, biosystems, computer science, financial systems, and physics. The monograph is also a very useful reference for skilled technical professionals developing real world applications.

    Description:

The present monograph offers a detailed and in-depth analysis of the topic of fault diagnosis for electric power systems and electric vehicles. It explores both model-based and model-free techniques for fault diagnosis and provides a solution for the problem of control of the marine-turbine and synchronous-generator unit and Fault diagnosis of the marine turbine and synchronous-generator unit. Additionally, it introduces innovative approaches for diagnosing faults in electricity microgrids and gas processing units. The new fault detection and isolation methods with statistical procedures for defining fault thresholds enable early fault diagnosis and reveal incipient changes in the parameters of the monitored systems.
    Key Features:

  • Analyzes model-based fault detection and isolation methods. Known models about the dynamics of the monitored system are used by nonlinear state observers and Kalman Filters, which emulate the system’s fault-free condition
  • Analyzes model-free fault detection and isolation methods. Raw data are processed by neural networks and nonlinear regressors to generate models that emulate the fault-free condition of the monitored system
  • Utilizes statistical tests based on residual processing, which compare outputs from the monitored system to those of a fault-free model, providing objective and highly reliable criteria for identifying failures
  • Enables early fault diagnosis through new detection and isolation methods that use statistical procedures for defining fault thresholds, effectively revealing incipient changes in the parameters of monitored systems

Oddaję do rąk czytelników drugi tom książki dotyczącej transhumanizmu, w której podejmuje próbę odszukania przyczyn, które spowodowały powstanie koncepcji ulepszania człowieka, prowadzące wprost do teoretycznego stanu osobliwości singularity, kiedy to osiągniemy technologiczną możliwość transferu ludzkiego umysłu do maszyny. Tom pierwszy dotyczył zagadnień związanych z fenomenem ludzkiego umysłu i opisywał, dotyczące go podstawowe pojęcia i hipotezy.

    Description:

The twenty-eighth and final novel in the thrilling, wickedly funny Inspector Montalbano Mysteries series by bestselling author Andrea Camilleri.
‘Contrary to what you think, I’m carrying out this investigation as best I can. But let’s do this: if I get stuck, if I find I can’t go forward or back, then I’ll let you know, and you can step in. And offer me a way out. You’ve gained a bit of detective work through me, haven’t you? What do you say?’
    ‘I’m game,’ said the Author…
When Inspector Montalbano receives an early-morning phone call it proves to be the start of a very trying day. For the caller expects Montalbano to arrive imminently at a rendezvous with some friends. But before he can reply the caller announces himself as someone called Riccardino and hangs up.
Later that day news comes in of a brutal slaying in broad daylight by an unknown assassin who makes his getaway on a motorbike. And when the Inspector learns of the victim’s identity – a man called Riccardino – his troubles are only just beginning. For soon he must contend with the involvement of a local bishop and a fortune teller who reports some strange goings-on in her neighbourhood.
All roads soon lead to a local salt mine but the case proves stubbornly intractable until Montalbano receives another unexpected call…

    Description:

Connections between the Society of Jesus and astrology used to appear as unexpected at best. Astrology was never viewed favourably by the Church, especially in early modern times, and since Jesuits were strong defenders of Catholic orthodoxy, most historians assumed that their religious fervour would be matched by an equally strong rejection of astrology. This groundbreaking and compelling study brings to light new Jesuit scientific texts revealing a much more positive, practical, and nuanced attitude. What emerges forcefully is a totally new perspective into early modern Jesuit culture, science, and education, highlighting the element that has been long overlooked: astrology.
