MongoDB Fundamentals. A hands-on guide to using MongoDB and Atlas in the real world
MongoDB is one of the most popular database technologies for handling large collections of data. This book will help MongoDB beginners develop the knowledge and skills to create databases and process data efficiently.
Unlike other MongoDB books, MongoDB Fundamentals dives into cloud computing from the very start – showing you how to get started with Atlas in the first chapter. You will discover how to modify existing data, add new data into a database, and handle complex queries by creating aggregation pipelines. As you progress, you’ll learn about the MongoDB replication architecture and configure a simple cluster. You will also get to grips with user authentication, as well as techniques for backing up and restoring data. Finally, you’ll perform data visualization using MongoDB Charts.
You will work on realistic projects that are presented as bitesize exercises and activities, allowing you to challenge yourself in an enjoyable and attainable way. Many of these mini-projects are based around a movie database case study, while the last chapter acts as a final project where you will use MongoDB to solve a real-world problem based on a bike-sharing app.
By the end of this book, you’ll have the skills and confidence to process large volumes of data and tackle your own projects using MongoDB.

Description:

This new edition is a greatly extended and updated version of my earlier monograph "Pricing Credit Linked Financial Instruments" (Schmid 2002). Whereas the first edition concentrated on the research which I had done in the context of my PhD thesis, this second edition covers all important credit risk models and gives a general overview of the subject. I put a lot of effort in explaining credit risk factors and show the latest results in default probability and recovery rate modeling. There is a special emphasis on correlation issues as well. The broad range of financial instruments I consider covers not only defaultable bonds, defaultable swaps and single counterparty credit derivatives but is further extended by multi counterparty in struments like index swaps, basket default swaps and collateralized debt obligations. I am grateful to Springer-Verlag for the great support in the realization of this project and want to thank the readers of the first edition for their overwhelming feedback. Last but not least I want to thank Uli Göser for ongoing patience, en couragement, and support, my family and especially my sister Wendy for being there at all times. Description:

The aim of this manual is to offer a comprehensive framework for both present and future military surgeons, enabling them to effectively navigate and build a successful career within the military, while also providing them with transferable skills upon completion of their military service. The military healthcare system operates within a unique framework with distinct challenges and opportunities. By acquiring knowledge and insights into the intricacies of military career paths, surgeons can make informed decisions about assignments, promotions and professional development. Navigating an Army, Air Force, Navy or Reserve career requires an understanding of the organizational structures, consultant roles and specific requirements of each service branch. Additionally, being aware of opportunities for advanced education, leadership development and operational assignments enables surgeons to develop a career trajectory aligned with their goals and aspirations.
Presently there is not a sole source document, either in the military or civilian sectors, that allows easy access and references to the multiple opportunities afforded to military surgeons or an understanding of life as a surgeon on active duty. Furthermore, this text provides context to civilian organizations, administrative personnel, recruiting departments and family members that interact with or assist in making important decisions for military surgeons. This manual features insight and guidance from senior leaders of our Armed Forces, both past and present, who have excelled in academic, operational and clinical surgical careers. By providing a reference for successfully navigating a military career, this will not only enhance the professional growth of a surgeon, but also ensure the delivery of high-quality healthcare to our service members and beneficiaries both domestic and abroad.

Description:

This open access book is the first to offer a systematic overview of the different methods for assessing brain development and a comparative review of how such assessments have already influenced the law. Lawmakers prefer to draw clear distinctions, but biology is characterized by continua: both in terms of how development proceeds within a person and how it differs from other people. However, this does not mean that age limits are arbitrary. This book extends the author’s previous research on the Dutch juvenile criminal law, which was founded on the brain development of adolescents and has been in use for more than a decade. The role of age limits in death and life sentences in the US and the new cannabis legislation in Germany are also analyzed in depth. This project combines biological, psychological and social knowledge and puts forward a pragmatic proposal to connect the two fields of brain development and law. It will be of interest to researchers, professionals (e.g. judges, legislators) and students alike.

Description:

An acclaimed science writer tells the story of cosmic projectiles that may be on a collision course with our Earth.

The impact of an asteroid led to the extinction of the dinosaurs. Could another giant cosmic missile soon be heading our way? In Target Earth, acclaimed Dutch astronomy writer Govert Schilling provides a full account of what we know, and need to know, about all the extraterrestrial matter constantly bombarding our planet-from microscopic dust particles and space debris to massive meteorites, comets, and asteroids.

Drawing on the latest scientific discoveries, Schilling explores virtually every aspect of cosmic impacts-from small meteorites to devastating collisions, from the craters that mark our planet’s surface to the impacts that left their mark on other celestial bodies, and from searches for near-miss lumps of rock to ways of protecting humanity from an assault from the cosmos. Along the way, he considers near misses in the past and the possibility of others in the future and ponders the positive side of these visitations from space: If our planet had not been the target of cosmic rubble from its very formation, life on Earth would likely never have gotten started.

Description:

Late antique and early medieval normative sources frequently employ Roman legal terminology to denote a person’s legal inferiority, and thus suggest the continued relevance of the concepts associated with these terms. However, it is far from clear to what extent the use of identical terminology actually indicates the similarity of social phenomena. There is ample evidence of important changes regarding the rights and duties of enslaved persons and the development or emergence of other, new, forms of asymmetrical dependency. This raises the question to what extent consistency in terminology and legal practice is actually an indicator of the stability of social structures. Against this background, a group of scholars of legal, ecclesiastical, and social history were invited to a conference at the BCDSS in March 2022 to scrutinise different law codes and legal sources for their evidence of dependency. The result are these ten papers that truly enhance our understanding of slavery and other dependency relations in late antique and early medieval societies from c. 100 to c. 900 CE.
