Description:

For courses in introductory combined Statics and Mechanics of Materials courses found in ME, CE, AE, and Engineering Mechanics departments. Statics and Mechanics of Materials represents a combined abridged version of two of the author’s books, namely Engineering Mechanics: Statics, Fourteenth Edition and Mechanics of Materials, Tenth Edition. It provides a clear and thorough presentation of both the theory and application of the important fundamental topics of these subjects, that are often used in many engineering disciplines. The development emphasizes the importance of satisfying equilibrium, compatibility of deformation, and material behavior requirements. The hallmark of the book, however, remains the same as the author’s unabridged versions, and that is, strong emphasis is placed on drawing a free-body diagram, and the importance of selecting an appropriate coordinate system and an associated sign convention whenever the equations of mechanics are applied. Throughout the book, many analysis and design applications are presented, which involve mechanical elements and structural members often encountered in engineering practice.

For Statics courses. A proven approach to conceptual understanding and problem—solving skills
Engineering Mechanics: Statics excels in providing a clear and thorough presentation of the theory and application of engineering mechanics. Engineering Mechanics empowers students to succeed by drawing upon Professor Hibbeler’s decades of everyday classroom experience and his knowledge of how students learn. The text is shaped by the comments and suggestions of hundreds of reviewers in the teaching profession, as well as many of the author’s students.
A variety of new video types are available for the 15th Edition. The author carefully developed each video to expertly demonstrate how to solve problems, model the best way to reach a solution, and give students extra opportunities to practice honing their problem—solving skills; he also summarizes key concepts discussed in the text, supported by additional figures, animations, and photos. The text provides a large variety of problems, 30% of which are new, with varying levels of difficulty that cover a broad range of engineering disciplines and stress practical, realistic situations. An expanded Answer Section in the back of the book now includes additional information related to the solution of select Fundamental and Review Problems in order to offer students even more guidance in solving the problems.

Description:

This book reviews the diagnosis and management of cardiac amyloidosis. Systemic amyloidosis is a broad spectrum of diseases that results from misfolding of proteins that aggregate into amyloid fibrils. In cardiac amyloidosis, amyloid fibrils accumulate in the interstitial space between cardiac myocytes causing cellular injury and impairing cardiac function.
Cardiac Amyloidosis reviews the advances in cardiac imaging, diagnostic strategies and therapies available that have improved the recognition and treatment of cardiac amyloidosis. The contributors to this book have distilled the existing clinical guidelines into a novel and simple pathway to help healthcare providers diagnose and treat patients. Within this book they review each section of this pathway: suspicion, red flags, diagnosis, treatment and follow up. With current data suggesting that cardiac amyloidosis is more common than previously thought, this book is a timely addition to the literature and will be important for all healthcare professionals managing these patients.

Description:

‘The third edition of this book is designed to carefully and coherently introduce fractional calculus to physicists, by applying the ideas to two distinct applications: classical problems and multi-particle quantum problems. There remain many open questions and the field remains an active area of research. Dr Herrmann’s book is an excellent introduction to this field of study.’Contemporary PhysicsThe book presents a concise introduction to the basic methods and strategies in fractional calculus which enables the reader to catch up with the state-of-the-art in this field and to participate and contribute in the development of this exciting research area. This book is devoted to the application of fractional calculus on physical problems. The fractional concept is applied to subjects in classical mechanics, image processing, folded potentials in cluster physics, infrared spectroscopy, group theory, quantum mechanics, nuclear physics, hadron spectroscopy up to quantum field theory and will surprise the reader with new intriguing insights. This new, extended edition includes additional chapters about numerical solution of the fractional Schrödinger equation, self-similarity and the geometric interpretation of non-isotropic fractional differential operators. Motivated by the positive response, new exercises with elaborated solutions are added, which significantly support a deeper understanding of the general aspects of the theory.Besides students as well as researchers in this field, this book will also be useful as a supporting medium for teachers teaching courses devoted to this subject.
