Poświęcona jest przybliżeniu istoty hipotezy Riemanna i wyjaśnieniu, dlaczego jest ona tak intensywnie badana. Część ta wymaga minimalnej wiedzy matematycznej, zatem nie używamy tam na przykład narzędzi analizy matematycznej. Część II książki Fascynujące liczby pierwsze i hipoteza Riemanna jest przeznaczona dla Czytelników bardziej zaawansowanych. Ma ona na celu ogólne przygotowanie do szczegółowego opisu analizy Fouriera. Oprócz tego kluczowym pojęciem tej części jest widmo.

Istnieją dwa fakty dotyczące rozkładu liczb pierwszych, o których mam nadzieję was przekonam tak dobitnie, że będą one na stałe wyryte w waszych sercach. Pierwszym z nich jest to, że są one najbardziej „wrednymi” obiektami badanymi przez matematyków rosną jak chwasty wśród liczb naturalnych, zdając się nie przestrzegać żadnego innego prawa niż tylko prawo przypadku. Nikt nie może przewidzieć, gdzie i kiedy po jednym z nich wykiełkuje następny. Drugi fakt jest jeszcze bardziej zdumiewający, ponieważ stwierdza coś zupełnie przeciwnego: mianowicie liczby pierwsze wykazują zadziwiającą regularność. Istnieją prawa rządzące ich zachowaniem a liczby pierwsze przestrzegają tych praw z niemal wojskowym drylem.

Książka, wydana staraniem Stowarzyszenia Księgowych w Polsce, jest pierwszym, pełnym tłumaczeniem traktatu na język polski. Napisany w XV wieku przez Luca Pacioliego traktat o rachunkowości przeznaczony był dla jemu współczesnych przedsiębiorców: bankierów, handlowców, posiadaczy wielkich majątków. Już wówczas uznano za konieczne ujednolicenie zasad księgowości. Wielka poczytność tego dzieła świadczyła o potrzebie dotarcia z tą „wiedzą tajemną” do księgowych, prowadzących księgi. Minęło kilka wieków, a zapotrzebowanie na wiedzę księgowych, nie maleje, nawet w XXI wieku.

Takie kategorie jak: ceny, koszty, zyski, straty, to od wieków ugruntowane pojęcia. Luca Pacioli w swoim dziele napisał „dobry księgowy musi w ten sposób postępować, aby zachować zawsze kupiecką rzetelność”, a także „po wszystkich innych pozycjach przychodzi konto nazywane zyski i straty lub zarobek i utrata lub profit i uszczerbek, w którym wszystkie inne pozycje się zamykają”. Jakże to aktualne i obecnie – wołanie o rzetelność w pracy, w tym także przy tworzeniu informacji sprawozdawczych.

Traktat o rachunkowości w języku polskim stanowi tłumaczenie określonego fragmentu książki (od strony 45 do strony 151) autorstwa Carla Antinori pt. Luca Pacioli e La Summa de Arithmetica Dopo 500 Anni Dalla Stampa Della 1-a Edizione (1494-1994).

Pozycja ta została wydana przez Instituto Poligrafico e Zecca Dello Stato w Rzymie w 1994 r. i stanowi źródłową translację na podstawie oryginalnego tekstu z dawnego dialektu, w którym pisał Luca Pacioli, na współczesny język włoski. Tekst traktatu poprzedza przedmowa Elżbiety Pogodzińskiej-Mizdrak o życiu i twórczości Luca Paciolego.

Nonstandard models of arithmetic are of interest to mathematicians through the presence of infinite (or nonstandard) integers and the various properties they inherit from the finite integers. Since their introduction in the 1930s (by Skolem and Gödel ),they have come to play an important role in model theory, and in combinatorics through independence results such as the Paris-Harrington theorem. This book is an introduction to these developments, and stresses the interplay between the first-order theory, recursion-theoretic aspects, and the structural properties of these models.

Prerequisites have been kept to a minimum. A basic grounding in elementary model theory and a familiarity with the notions of recursive, primitive recursive, and r.e. sets will be sufficient. Consequently, the book should be suitable for postgraduate students coming to the subject for the first time and a variety of exercises of varying degrees of difficulty will help to further the reader’s understanding.

Beginning with Gödel’s incompleteness theorem, the book covers the prime models, cofinal extensions, end extensions, Gaifman’s construction of a definable type, Tennenbaum’s theorem, Friedman’s theorem and subsequent work on indicators, and culminates in a chapter on recursive saturation and resplendency.
