Niniejsze opracowanie Polskie osady w rejonie Bosanskiej Gradiški i Derventy w latach 1892-1946 obejmuje około 20% ludności pochodzenia polskiego, osiedlonych na bośniackiej ziemi w rejonach poza powiatem Prnjavor. Opracowanie to dotyczy dwóch rejonów:
1) rejon Gradiški dotyczy ludności polskiej osiedlonej pod wzgórzem Kozara, zwanym tu jako rejon Bosanskiej Gradiški z parafiami podległymi biskupii banjaluckiej, a obejmującej tereny od Gradiški do Banja Luki;
2) rejon Derventy obejmuje okolice i miasto Derventa, dokąd przybywali koloniści, przeprawiając się przez rzekę Savę ze Slavonskiego do Bosanskiego Brodu. Parafia Derventa podlega obecnie biskupii w Sarajevie.
Według spisu ludności z 1910 roku w Bośni było wtedy 10 975 Polaków, nie licząc wojska (w pow. Prnjavor 6 147, pow. Gradiszka 753, Banja Luka 824 i Derventa 302).
Jedyną polską parafią w opisywanym rejonie (pow. Gradiška i Derventa) była parafia w Milovacu. Pozostałe polskie osady lub skupiska były przypisane do parafii niemieckiej w Windthorst (Nova Topola),włoskiej w Mahovljani oraz w mniejszej ilości do parafii Bosanska Gradiška, Bosanski Novi i Derventa. Pozostałe 15% Polaków osiedliło się w innych rejonach Bośni (po kilka rodzin) w miejscowościach zamieszkałych przez ludność prawosławną (Serbowie) lub muzułmańską (Bośniacy) np. w rejonie Tešajn, Banja Luka, Slavonski Brod, Zenica i innych.
