Description:

Program Kinect to do awesome things using a unique selection of open source software! The Kinect motion-sensing device for the Xbox 360 and Windows became the world’s fastest-selling consumer electronics device when it was released (8 million sold in its first 60 days) and won prestigious awards, such as "Gaming Gadget of the Year." Now Kinect Open Source Programming Secrets lets YOU harness the Kinect’s powerful sensing capabilities for gaming, science, multimedia projects, and a mind-boggling array of other applications on platforms running Windows, Mac OS, and Linux.
Dr. Andrew Davison, a user interface programming expert, delivers exclusive coverage of how to program the Kinect sensor with the Java wrappers for OpenNI and NITE, which are APIs created by PrimeSense, the primary developers of the Kinect’s technology.
Beginning with the basics-depth imaging, 3D point clouds, skeletal tracking, and hand gestures-the book examines many other topics, including Kinect gaming, FAAST-style gestures that aren’t part of standard NITE, motion detection using OpenCV, how to create gesture-driven GUIs, accessing the Kinect’s motor and accelerometer, and other tips and techniques.
Inside:

  • Free open source APIs to let you develop amazing Kinect hacks for commercial or private use
  • Full coverage of depth detection, camera, and infrared imaging point clouds; Kinect gaming; 3D programming; gesture-based GUIs, and more
  • Online access to detailed code examples on the author’s web site, plus bonus chapters on speech recognition, beamforming, and other exotica

    Description:

She was never meant to be a member of the Culling. He was never supposed to find his mate. Fate stepped in to ensure both.

There was only one reason the bond would choose Emery Montgomery. Her twin was dead. As soon as the silver band of the Culling appeared on her wrist, binding her to the vampire prince himself, her world turned upside down.

Forced to compete for the heart of her enemy in an archaic version of The Bachelor, Emery had only three things on her mind: Keep her witch heritage a secret, find her sister’s murderer, and above all, don’t fall for the sinfully handsome prince.

August Nicholson wanted nothing to do with the pompously groomed women in his Culling, that was, until Emery showed up. She was unlike any other, calmed the dark twisted side of him few knew existed.

Instantly drawn to her, August must struggle against her intoxicating presence, because while he may want her for himself, he needs her to play her part to protect his family more.

Together, Emery and August must fight their feelings and find the culprit behind her twin’s murder, because if the Montgomery women were being hunted, Emery was next.

    Description:

This monograph discusses the different effects contributing to the overall loss of signal propagation along Earth-space paths and suggests ways to improve the design of communication systems.
The work begins with a brief overview of the theoretical aspects of the use of the geostationary orbit for microwaves propagation.
The chapter two is concerned with the propagation of microwaves in the troposphere. The discussion includes signal attenuation due to precipitation, clouds, fog, and atmospheric gases, an increase in noise and total signal degradation due to precipitation, emission noise from absorbing media (radio noise increase),and signal depolarization by raindrops. This type of radiation covers a spectrum wider than the microwave spectrum.
Chapter three analyses atmospheric attenuation. In practice, statistical description is one of satisfactory way to present the results of modelling of satellite links in undesired weather conditions in the area of Kielce. Because of the description was based on assumptions and actual data, those assumptions were verifiable and based on strong statistical evidence supporting them in the long-term perspective in Kielce (40 years in this case). Thanks to this approach, it was able to compare data provided by ITU-R or ESA with real-time data (e.g. rain attenuation as a function of the rain rate). Moreover, this chapter presents the application of polynomial regressions to simply illustrate the influence of rainfall on the signal attenuation. Each datum was processed using a bilinear interpolation to achieve an improved evaluation from the adjacent grids for a selected region in Poland. These estimates may be used by satellite systems engineers to calculate the link budget analyses.
The monograph also deals with propagation concerns for satellite communications systems. The rainfall has a considerable influence on the quality of microwaves signals in the satellite communications systems, especially due to absorption and reflection, as hydrometeors act as a strong source of noise. All of data were used to identify the impact of rain intensity, polarization and radio waves frequency on the microwave satellite signal quality. The research results presented in the monograph can be useful to satellite engineers to improve the design and performance of satellite communication links, or to minimize the interruption or total lack of communication between the terminal and the satellite.
