Description:

Five days before 7 October 2023 a young Palestinian doctor returns to Gaza, having completed his medical studies abroad. His family gathers to celebrate his achievements and welcome him home.
On 11 October seventy-five members of his extended family are killed in an airstrike, and thus begins his incredible story of survival and service to his people. For more than eight months Dr Ezzideen Shehab volunteers at the Indonesian Hospital in northern Gaza, witnessing first-hand catastroph ic injuries and deaths, and working under the most difficult circumstances imaginable, including shortages of life-saving medicines and equipment.
Constantly targeted by the IDF, the Indonesian hospital is ultimately destroyed. In December 2024 Dr Shehab co-founds the Al-Rahma Medical Centre, to provide free medical care in northern Gaza where no functioning hospitals remain. The Al-Rahma clinic is damaged multiple times and in July 2025 is forced to close. Dr Shehab and his family are displaced for the fifth time with no hope of ever returning to their demolished home in the north of Gaza.
Throughout it all, Dr Shehab posts regular updates on the situation for his patients and for his people. His clarity and humanity shine bright as he describes those he treats, and his incomprehension at the unfolding genocide and the silence of the world in the face of the ongoing atrocities.
Diary of a Young Doctor is an unforgettable testimony of one of the most shameful periods in recent history.
Praise for Diary of a Young Doctor
‘I literally fell to my knees and wept on finishing this book. As the doctor suggests, the whole world should. Nothing has conveyed to us so powerfully the unbearable shame of being safe, being complicit, or being silent, while Gaza is murdered, while Gaza is starved and destroyed. This is more than literature or reportage: this is a reckoning with the undeniable failure of humanity. The world has chosen to fail Gaza and this book is a staggeringly powerful witness to and indictment of that evil. It is a real-time account from inside the atrocity and it should shatter indifference. It is a miracle of resilience, clarity and truth. It reckons with the unfathomable and should shake the souls of millions. It might stun you but, please, not to silence. Scream the doctor’s words from the rooftops. Scream his right to live.’ Max Porter
‘Written under siege and in the shadow of unrelenting violence, Dr Ezzideen Shehab’s words carry both the clinical precision of a doctor and the searing intimacy of a witness. These are writings of unbearable clarity, carved out of catastrophe, that will not allow the world to look away.’ Sara M Saleh

Description:

The Raspberry Pi: Complete Tips and Tricks to Raspberry Pi Setup and Project Development book is your one-stop guide to learning everything there is to know about programming and coding. It serves as a foundation to prepare you for other things such as how to build robots, develop games and apps, and the collection of other fascinating concepts and projects that you can tinker with the Raspberry Pi board however you like.

You can become your own computer engineer by knowing how to set up your operating system, as well as knowing and connecting which circuits and wires go into which of the board’s pins. Since it was designed to teach young children how to program with user-friendly languages, including Scratch and Python, your head will explode when trying to figure out how to work with the board.

The book will teach you everything there is to know about the Raspberry Pi, including the different versions, the ports, and how to properly attach peripherals like the monitor, keyboard, and mouse to it. You will then learn how to set up your Raspberry Pi hardware, how to assemble the case, connect a display, connect audio, set up your software, install your operating system Raspbian, how to manually install the Raspberry Pi, and also flashing from different operating systems.

You’ll also learn how to use the board when you’re ready. The Welcome Wizard will allow you to configure the settings in the operating system Raspbian. You’ll learn how the programs are organized and viewed on your desktop and how you can access them. You can save any of the programs that you write, the images you download from the Internet, and the videos that you create with the File Manager.

But the best part about this book is how you get to program with Python and Scratch. And don’t worry, we’ve worded this book in a way that newbie programmers or those who have no idea what coding is like can understand. No more excuses. Its time to delve right in!

Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 1032826401

Description:

Exploring the implications of a novel theory of educational desire on the prevailing modes of educational research and theory, this book contextualises the realm of education studies through the challenging philosophies and theories of Lacan, thereby providing a genuinely alternative approach to the study of education.
Structured into three main parts, the book provides a discussion of Lacanian ideas within educational research by setting out a description and analysis of how a theory of desire may work in educational settings and practice. Using vignettes and examples to drive the discussion, chapters explore the pivotal aspects of desire, which could be imaginary, symbolic, or real, elucidated by a mapping of discourses and exploring the reluctance of educational studies to engage with themes related to desire and psychoanalysis. Ultimately, the book argues for the need to disrupt the theoretical and practical logics and models that limit teacher practice, such as accountability, visible learning, competencies, pedagogical knowledge, and professional development, and how these can be better understood from a Lacanian perspective.
This book will be of use to scholars, researchers, and academics in the fields of the philosophy of education, the theory of education, and teachers and teacher education more broadly. Those specifically interested in Lacanian psychoanalysis and a Lacanian view on how the concept of desire may influence educational research and practice will also find the book of use.

    Description:

designing networks cities presents a sophisticated, multi-disciplinary, and multi-dimensional approach to urban design. Emerging from years of practice, experimentation, and research by designers (landscape architects, urban planners, urban designers and architects), this approach engages with contemporary thought across a number of disciplines to re-invent the entrenched blunt instruments of the city making process. A cry for flexible, sharp-instruments in urban design, designing networks cities presents a multi-dimensional way of seeing the essential components of the city (form, space-time, order and aesthetics). It purposefully links traditional architectural design derivation mechanisms to urban design, in the hope that cities will not only be pragmatic, but also become sophisticated iconographically, poetically, and syntactically. It provides the tools to enable decision making within a multiplicity of constraints and opportunities: a philosophy of becoming, not being; a science of dynamic systems, not stasis; and an art of sensations, not subjectivity. And finally, and most importantly, it argues why it is important that cities embrace these multiple dimensions of society on a planet that is facing increasing environmental challenges: an economics focused on equity for all, not for some more than others; a politics supporting a genuine representational democracy, not one representing the overly influential; and a culture [including history] that embraces difference, not one that encourages division. designing networks cities not only provides the means to identify these issues and a methodology to deal with them within a complex emerging co-existence, but also demonstrates the development of cities that embrace and respond to the complexities of life in what some are calling the Anthropocene.

    Description:

Designing Instruction with Generative AI offers a novel set of tools and strategies for leveraging generative AI to create engaging and personalized learning experiences. While instructional designers are a tremendous asset to higher education, not all colleges or universities have the robust staff needed to support all instructors on staff or large student populations. Drawing on a wealth of research, professional experience, and strategic insights, this book equips new and seasoned teaching faculty and trainers with step-by-step directions on how freely accessible artificial intelligence software can assist with all aspects of the course creation and instruction process and cater to the needs of diverse learners. Each chapter offers forward-thinking and empirically validated ways to help faculty create and improve instructional materials, course design, and learning environments while supporting their digital literacies. Rather than introduce AI as a means of outsourcing subject-area expertise, critical thinking, or cognitive processes, the author instead emphasizes its potential to build on traditionally honed knowledge and foundational instructional design practices. From optimizing course alignment and accessibility practices to fostering active learning, motivation, and engagement, educators will find new solutions to common teaching and learning challenges with greater efficiency in time and capacity.

    Description:

Drawing on original designer interviews, this book explores how design interventions can and do support sex and gender equity and what barriers still stand in the way.
Isabel Prochner not only brings attention to sex and gender problems related to design artifacts but also provides a unique overview of creative design responses to these issues. The case studies and designer interviews provide new information about how designers can address these issues and the challenges they may encounter – whether that’s a lack of anthropometric data, trouble finding investment and business support, or even public resistance. Prochner brings together primary and secondary research and the most contemporary theories on sex, gender, and design.
This book will be of interest to scholars working in design studies, sex and gender studies, social design, design for health, industrial design, product design, fashion design, and interaction design.
