The OpenBuildings development team is pleased to announce the availability of OpenTunnel Designer 2022 Release 2 Update 12 (10.12.01.146) is the first and only purpose-built software for tunnel modeling and design.

OpenTunnel Designer 2022 Release 2
OpenTunnel Designer (OTD) CONNECT Edition 2022 Release 2 contains the enhancements and error corrections mentioned in the following paragraphs.

1. Reports – The auxiliaries and singularities placed as cell’s are now listed in the quantities report.
2. Reports – Multiple enhancements for input echo report and quantities report.
3. Feature Definition – Added option to select a feature definition for the alignments created with tool "Create".
4. Feature Definition – Added the feature definition property panel on properties dialogs for reinforcements.

13. Modeling – Enhancements regarding the soil meshes cutting.
14. Modeling – Enhancements regarding the solid creation on tight curves or specific alignment geometry.

16. Modeling – The tag tool for auxiliary by path has been changed to support only closed boundaries (like tunnel lining parts) instead of a closed shape.
17. Modeling – Added the capability to support placement of parametric cells using OTD tools Note – the cells will be placed using the variations from the cell file; the user will not be able to control the variations from the active model in OTD.
18. Modeling – Added the option "Set active alignment". The tool will move the tunnel from one alignment to another alignment.
19. Modeling – Added the option to place conventional tunnels and portals with the property "Vertical" (parallel with world Z direction) and "Normal" (normal to the active profile).
20. Modeling – Updated files in the tunnel catalog. Updated portal catalog files (added the excavation shape for portals).
21. Item types – Technology Preview – Added the possibility to attach item types to the feature definitions defined in OTD for tunnel solids. Note – the item types need to be attached to the feature definition prior to create the tunnel solid.
22. GUI – Added option to select multiple templates in the Tunnel/Portal Template dialog for export or delete commands.
23. GUI – Added a new tab called "Singularities" in the material catalog for selecting a material when placing singularities as cells.
Error corrections
1. Fixed an error where the soil was not filled after an element was deleted.
2. Fixed an error where the solid was not updating after the 2d geometry was deleted from the template.
3. Fixed an error where the soil meshes were not cutting correctly the tunnel that was passing through different soil meshes.
4. Fixed an error where in some specific cases the forepoles direction was not computed correctly.
5. Fixed an error where the soil meshes were not transferred correctly to PLAXIS 2D.
6. Fixed multiple errors regarding the soil meshes for different specific cases.

Changes to the geometry or template immediately update the entire corridor, enabling a high degree of dynamic design.
4. Drainage and Utilities
This module integrates functionality for hydraulic analysis and underground utility design. It is used to model and calculate stormwater and wastewater drainage systems, as well as other utilities (water supply, gas pipelines). It allows you to check hydraulic characteristics, place manholes and pipes, and determine their slopes.
5. Survey (Geodesy)

RM Bridge
The list of issues fixed are as below:

• D D E – Dynamic Data Exchange > Stages and Tendon Actions – There was a mistake in the report generated by this DDE module; especially, "dl" and "l" quantities were reported wrong. The same report (stress.lst) is also produced by the solver during analysis where these were reported correctly. Now this has been addressed.
• While importing RM TCL file, parser used to crash, without any indication why, if there was a missing keyword, "BEGIN" next to "RMSCHED". Now this has been fixed. It is not always necessary to use "BEGIN" keyword. The program assumes its presence in the absence of it.
• Analyzer > Properties > Variables > EC8_DESIGN_SPEC > EC8d_sd_Tab > EC8d_TD – There was a mistake in generating Elastic Design Spectrum based on EN 1998-1 when equations 3.15 or 3.16 governed. The limits of these two equations do not involve multiplying with S (defined in 3.2.2.2). In previous versions, by default, Swas multiplied along with the product of b and ag.
• IRC-112:2020 has the wrong formula for Relative Humidity, BetaRH. RM Bridge also implemented the wrong expression in the variables that need correction. The formula got corrected in errata later on. RM Bridge needed to adapt to that correction.

Wrong expression was,

BetaRH = -1.55 (1 – RH/100)^3

which will be,

BetaRH = -1.55 (1 – (RH/100)^3)

• Training Examples were not available in the latest v.24.00.01.* out in the market. Now this is fixed. Also, the links shown on the training page were not accessible. Now those links are effective and lead to proper YouTube videos.
• Analyzer > View Options > Draw RmSet – This option used to crash the application. This is now addressed.
• Certain Bridge models generated using Wizard were making the application to crash. This is now fixed.
• Analyzer > Results > Load Cases > Diagram (lower right corner) – PDF report generator was always throwing error when accessed from Diagram window. This has been addressed now.

The list of issues fixed are as below:

• The program crashed due to uninitialized variables being used to store cross-frame data in LEAP Bridge Steel.
• The analytical model of a steel plate girder bridge with pile bents was created incorrectly in LEAP Bridge Steel due to an error in the exchange of a spiral alignment dataset when the physical model was transferred from OpenBridge Modeler.
